My blogging has been almost non-existent over the last year and to be honest I’ve been putting it off the last couple of months as it felt like too big a thing to catch back up on but I’m not going to be a defeatist, so I’m coming back to it if I can with an easy way to catch back up- a day in the life blog- but with a slight twist. I’ve chosen a weekend day instead of my normal weekday antics. So here it is, Sunday 11th January 2026…

02:34- Wake up with a jolt as Polly is stood in silence beside the bed. She climbs in the bed but Henry I realise is missing. I find him on the sofa where I’d left him reassuring me he was following me upstairs hours beforehand. As I’m up I pull his trousers out the washing machine to air them out as I’m a nice wife really. Pop to the loo, check the little 2 and climb into bed with Henry following for real this time.

06:51- Clara does the exact same thing as her sister and gives me my second heart attack of the night. Henry has left for work. The girls have a scrap over who is laying where in the bed so I snap at them both to be quiet and get under the duvet.

07:37- Clara and I wake up. Polly has gone downstairs. I have cuddles with the smallest one and help her find her missing cuddly toy. Clara then decides she’d rather go downstairs with Polly so is replaced with the cat who gets a cuddle instead.

07:52- I hear Seb get up and even though it’s dark, windy and rainy and I’m enjoying my cocoon with the cat I pull myself out of bed too and head downstairs. The girls are blanketed up on each sofa watching a horse programme on Netflix that looks very intense. Seb appears downstairs from the bathroom too.

07:55- Seb and I have a cuddle whilst the girls give me the lowdown on who’s kissed who on their programme.

08:00- Breakfast making time- a mix of toast and cereal. I put my boiler suit in the dryer.

08:10- All up the table to eat breakfast. Lots of chats from puberty to cottage pie to another horse update.

08:26- Breakfast finished. The girls go back to watching the rest of the episode they had paused. Seb takes a look through the Tesco magazine recipes left on the table. I rearrange some drying washing and put some other washing away. Seb and I get dressed and clean our teeth.

08:47- We come back downstairs. I sort more washing out. The girls finish watching their dramatic horse programme so the TV goes off. I clean the kitchen a bit.

09:03- The girls are both now dressed- the small one somewhat reluctantly, then they settle down to play whilst Seb potters about. I tidy the living room. I put Spotify on with requests coming in from all angles from Soda pop to the Freaky Friday song.

09:15- Still sorting out washing. At this point the house is basically a laundrette. I make another cup of tea. Seb has a strop as I’ve said no to the TV for a while and it’s too early for a snack but then he settles with a book instead.

09:25- I peel some potatoes for later.

09:32- I sit for a bit with my cup of tea and just watch the kids play from a distance.

09:43- I fix a pair of Polly’s trousers.

09:54- I swap more washing about as another load finishes on the airer and another in the tumble dryer.

09:58- I concede to snack time and start some studying, whilst ignoring the growing ironing pile. I gain Seb with a dinosaur book by my side.

10:24- Seb starts getting a bit restless so I set up a little zip line for him with a Lego man inside.

11:02- Last bits of washing dry and added to the mound. The kids are still all playing so I carry on with the studying.

11:07- Act too soon and the girls have a major blow up. Clara has crashed the Bluey car into the side of the house and caused mass casualties so she flees the scene of the crime and is instead hiding under the table with the cat.

11:11- Henry is home and heads straight for the shower.

11:28- Pause studying. Polly is sat on the windowsill waiting for our guests. Clara is eating an orange. Seb has 2 formula 1 books out now and is cross referencing facts between the 2! Henry is in the kitchen cooking sausages. I sneak a snack out the fridge.

11:38- I have a play with Clara.

11:50- Nanny and Pops arrive. Cups of tea, chats and lots of laughter.

13:02- Nanny and Pops leave. I put food on. Henry and the kids watch some Hoof GP YouTube videos. The girls get the toys back out again to resume their game. I hit the studying again whilst cooking.

13:44- I serve the food up at the table. Lamb for the grown ups and chicken for the kids. Seb has a meltdown though as he ‘doesn’t like anything.’ After 10 minutes he gives up and eats some food.

14:08- Washing up time. Clean the kitchen. Whilst they all go back to playing and Hoof GP. Oh and Clara feeds the cat his 600th snack of the day.

14:31- I make the lunches for tomorrow. I get distracted by Clara who asks me to catch a snail on the outside of the window for her snail house. Make a cup of tea.

14:44- Iron the school uniform.

15:00- Henry has a well needed power nap. The kids watch a bit of Friday night dinner and I put all the school uniform on its hangers for the week ahead.

15:15- I lay out mine and the kids clothes for tomorrow. Wake Henry up with a Clara cuddle. Everyone goes for safety wees. We all get suited and booted- literally. Grab the snack bag and attempt to leave the house.

15:26- We actually get to the car and set off. The girls play ‘Yellow car’ but they have memorised most of the yellow cars on the journey so are just punching each other at certain streets now instead of seeing the actual car.

15:58- Arrive and it’s time to farm. I take Seb and Clara calf feeding whilst Henry takes Polly to start milking. Clara is very helpful feeding all the individual calves whilst Seb jumps off hay bales. Once they’re all fed we meet the other 2 in the parlour to help finishing the milking off. The kids play cows in the parlour once the actual cows are all out whilst Henry and I do all the washing, although Polly did her fair share of scraping the shit through first to help.

18:30- We finish our shift and bundle back in the car.

18:45- Milkshake shop time (a.k.a the M&S garage!).

18:51- Set off for home.

19:11- Home. Henry drops us out and goes searching for a parking spot. I run the bath immediately. Seb jumps in first. I heat up some leftovers and chat to Seb about the Titanic whilst eating them. The girls play downstairs.

19:31- Seb out, Clara in. Henry finally reappears. I put more washing on and then dry Seb’s hair.

19:40- Clara out, Polly in. I dry Clara’s hair. Polly asks for the classical music Spotify playlist for a ‘relaxing bath.’ Henry gets some food.

19:49- Cut and wash Polly’s hair.

19:58- Polly out. Dry Polly’s hair whilst Henry supervises teeth cleaning.

20:07- Henry reads the bedtime story.

20:13- Finally time to say goodnight.

20:20- I jump in the shower.

20:33- I fall on the sofa with a cup of tea and half an Easter egg. Henry and I watch a Funky Farmer YouTube video.

21:05- Henry goes for a shower and I read some of my book.

21:27- We watch some Schitt’s Creek together.

22:15- Put a last load of washing on and head to bed.
