Just a little update while enjoying an actual hot cup of tea!

I should go to bed, I really should go to bed but I’m currently sat on the sofa watching what I want to watch (well I will put it on when I’ve finished this), I have a cup of tea to hand that I’m hoping doesn’t need the microwave treatment like the last 2 did and both children are asleep, well Seb is asleep on me (judge all you like, I don’t care as I enjoy the cuddles) but I’m so tired I should be upstairs. We are going away in the morning- alarm set for before sunrise but I’ve not stopped all day so I’m enjoying some chill out/almost ‘me time’.

I was meant to get things organised yesterday but I hate packing and will put it off till the last possible moment so I stupidly left it all for today, while trying to tidy the house, do 2 loads of washing and keep 2 little people alive while Henry works a split. But I think I’ve got there, just the toothbrushes to chuck in the bag then we’ll be off.

We very much need a little break as we’ve not had one since I went back to work in October and that was a week at home so it’ll be nice to have some quality time together. Even if it is a night less than we thought as this muppet buggered up the booking and has us checking out on Wednesday not Thursday- oops! But it does mean we’ll travel back at night and therefore we’ve gained a whole day on Thursday. It’s just a good job we hadn’t actually made any plans for that morning!

I’ve been secretly organising some things for the later part of next week as a certain person won’t be in the twenties anymore next weekend. It’s been so hard keeping things from him though as we normally share everything- and I mean everything! He’s tried guessing a few times but I’ve just said no to everything and have sworn the guys at work to secrecy or I’d spoon their eyes out.

The good news is we seem to have kicked the horrendous flu bug we all had, just the odd runny nose or cough every now and then. All I can say is if any of you go down with it… God help you! Polly actually didn’t get off the sofa for 3 days, normally she won’t sit on it for 3 minutes (unless paw patrol is on, then she could actually become part of the sofa as she’s so transfixed on those bloody doggies).

I do feel very out of sync with the rest of the world now though. We’ve not been to a toddler group for a good 2 weeks (half term didn’t help in this) and the furthest we’ve really gone has been the byes apart from our usual weekly trip to Nanny and Pops’. This is also why I’m looking forward to a full on few days next week.

Seb is now 10 months old- I have no idea how this has happened! He still refuses to even try and crawl but did squeeze in a couple of milestones while still single digit months. He pulled himself up for the first time on Monday, in the bath, which was terrifying and didn’t last long as he didn’t know what to do with himself next! He is also walking holding our fingers, looking very proud of himself. But the cutest thing is his little finger pointing that’s usually aimed at the cat or his own reflection and I really need to catch it on camera!

There’s not much else to really report, hopefully the next blog will have a bit more action. In the meantime I’m about to dig the remote out from under Seb and yes I did actually get a warm cup of tea! Just a shame we’ve eaten all the chocolate in the house.

‘Cough cough’ we all got sick :(

So it’s just gone 1 in the afternoon, Henry has gone food shopping and the rest of us are cuddled on the sofa watching Cars… again. Yup the lurgy has hit our house.

Last Thursday I started feeling a bit off, nearly a week later and I’m still producing enough crap from my nose and chest to fill a swimming pool and I’ve spread it to the rest of the house- oops!

There’s been more sleep during the day than at night, plenty of sofa cuddles and enough CBeebies to send any sane individual round the twist. Henry and I have dragged ourselves into most of our shifts, on a couple of occasions we’ve been sent home- Henry spectacularly lasted less than half an hour on Sunday.

Sunday was a slight sore point as we’d been looking forward to a birthday pool party for ages, I’d got the day off for it and the swimming costumes were ready but this was the morning Henry and Polly ‘officially’ went down with the bug. So instead of family swimming, we had family sleeping on the sofa.

Standards do go a bit out the window when everyone is sick as no one has any energy and to be fair everyone in the house is either asleep or in an animation coma so they don’t really care that the hoover made it out the cupboard 4 days ago and hasn’t found it’s way back home yet, or that the recycling pile on the kitchen work surface is looking like a life size replica of the leaning tower of Pisa or that the towel wash has been waiting patiently by the washing machine since Monday. I could go on. The important thing is that all 4 of us are alive even if pasta, fish fingers and toast has become our staple diet.

There have been a couple of hilarious highlights though- of course. Not sure whether it was Henry (who gets a bit emotional when he’s poorly) having a slight breakdown at the Cinderella Story on Sunday- not letting him forget that in a long time. Then there was me who fainted while changing Seb’s bum the other morning- it wasn’t a bad nappy, I just stood up too quick. Henry came in just in time to guide me onto Polly’s bed while he redressed a very confused baby. Then there’s the little queen herself who did a ‘sick day’ in style today by eating cheese on toast while watching This Morning and reminding me we need more chocolate in the house. Then there’s Seb himself who ate two meals sat on the floor the other day with the rest of his family watching on while shivering under blankets with a sweat on at the same time.

But enough of the self pity. I just thought I’d share an insight into a household where everyone is poorly and where on Monday morning when the work alarm went off at 6:30AM we basically drew straws on who was facing the public first- I didn’t get dressed till 4PM so that shows who ‘won that one!

A tooth, some snow and hopefully some sleep!

Well I’ve definitely being a bit lax this year on the blogging front…. oops! It’s not that much has happened in the last couple of weeks, to be honest that’s been the problem- I’ve not found much to write about so haven’t really bothered. I’ve got a couple of general blog posts in the pipeline that have been distracting me too. Plus I just wrote a whole post only to delete the whole thing as it was a bit crap and waffly- and I’m in danger of this one going the same way at this rate!

So enough with the excuses- what have we actually been up to? Well like most of the country we had a splash of snow this week, not too much but it did trigger a house day for the children yesterday as I couldn’t be bothered with a tantruming toddler (she woke up grumpy) in the snow with Seb all wrapped up while pooing for England again (bloody teeth!) as he was in blow out the nappy mood. The only trouble with a house day is that it extends the day by about 3 weeks.

Polly has developed a hilarious comeback to anything we say or do- “you go work.” Everything from me saying no more postman pat to Seb pulling her hair when I dried them off after a bath to me suggesting we change her nappy all prompts the defiant shout “you go work”. Yup even Seb gets told to go to work!

Seb himself has finally and I mean FINALLY cut his first tooth. I mean it’s only taken 9 months for him to grow the tiniest little trace of a tooth, like the same amount of time it took me to grow him. But anyway after a grumpy few days with some spectacular nights where he seemed to think no one needed any sleep he’s back to his smiley self.

Talking about sleep, or the lack of, today I took the cot to pieces and moved it into our room. This is the cot that he’s spent 5 minutes one night sleeping in so far. Oh and there was the nap a couple of weeks ago that him and I both took in there together when I tried and failed to implement a new sleep scheme. So I’ve put it up pretty much joined to our bed with the idea of slowly moving him away from my boobs at night as it just feels like it might be time to start trying a different scheme. Not sure where I’ve got the term ‘sleep scheme’ from but it sounds a bit nicer than ‘Henry and I would like our bed back for a least an hour or so at night!’

So I think I’m going to sign off for tonight as I’ve been typing various posts for over an hour now and to be honest I’d quite like to watch an episode of Game of thrones’ while I can before attempting the new ‘scheme!’ Plus the boob monster is fidgeting again…
